ഒരു സർക്കാർ എച്ച്.ഐ.വി / എയ്ഡ്സ് ചികിത്സാ കേന്ദ്രത്തിൽ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചിരുന്ന എനിക്ക് പോലും ആദ്യകാലങ്ങളിൽ സംശയങ്ങൾ ബാക്കിയായിരുന്നു.ഇരുപത് വർഷത്തോളം തുടർച്ചയായി മരുന്നുകൾ കഴിച്ച്, ആരോഗ്യവാനായി തുടരുന്ന ഒരു പോലീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥൻ അന്ന് ക്ലിനിക്കിൽ വന്നിരുന്നു. ആദ്യമായി എച്ച്.ഐ.വി പോസിറ്റീവ് ആണെന്ന് തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞ്, മരണത്തിന്റെ വക്കിൽ തങ്ങൾ എത്തി എന്ന് വിശ്വസിച്ച് നിരാശരായി പുറത്ത് കാത്തിരിക്കുന്ന പലർക്കും ഇദ്ദേഹം ധൈര്യം പകരുന്നത് കാണാമായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട്, നേരത്തേ തന്നെ രോഗ നിർണ്ണയം നടത്തി, കൃത്യമായ ചികിത്സയെടുത്ത് ,ആരോഗ്യത്തോടെ എല്ലാ ജോലികളും ചെയ്യുന്ന അനേകം വ്യക്തികളെ കണ്ട് തുടങ്ങിയതോടെ ആ സംശയം നിശ്ശേഷം ഇല്ലാതായി.

In the initial days of my practice at a government HIV clinic, i myself was was not very sure about the efficacy of the HIV Drugs. A police officer who had been on HIV treatment for around 20 years used to come to clinic on those days.He was on regular treatment and was quite healthy. He would talk to those depressed HIV infected individuals,waiting outside the doctor’s room,and would tell them how HIV is not a death sentence. The way,many of the HIV infected individuals with an early diagnosis and regular treatment ,remained healthyand led normal lives,was quite convincing.
